Boiler Water Treatment / Steam & Return Line Treatment

After leaving the boiler, steam passes through numerous heat exchangers, with varying amounts recovered as condensate. Condensate typically accumulates various impurities in the process. Carbon dioxide and oxygen are the primary contaminants found in steam condensate that are often the source of iron and copper corrosion.

The most common problems result from carbon dioxide, which converts to carbonic acid in the condensate, lowers the condensate pH, and corrodes metals throughout the system. Acidic condensate will corrode lengths of condensate return piping, pipe threads, nipples, and elbows, resulting in leaks and process equipment deterioration and failure. Steam condensate treatment can take many shapes and forms depending on the regulatory, operational and health and safety environment.

Wastewater Management Technology’s steam condensate treatments include neutralizing amines, filming amines, and oxygen scavenger-metal passivators designed to protect all parts of the condensate treatment system. Wastewater Management Technology’s field engineers provide expertise on proper corrosion inhibitors and neutralizing and filming amines to protect steam line and condensate return systems.
