Customized Heavy Metal Precipitants

Heavy metals are present in many industrial wastewaters. Examples of such metals are cadmium, copper, lead, mercury, nickel, and zinc. The principal technology to remove metals pollutants from wastewater is by chemical precipitation. Chemical precipitation includes two secondary removal mechanisms, coprecipitation and adsorption. Precipitation processes are characterized by the solubility of the metal to be removed. They are generally designed to precipitate trace metals to their solubility limits and obtain additional removal by coprecipitation and adsorption during the precipitation reaction.

WMT’s heavy metal precipitants are expressly formulated to precipitate metal ions from a variety of industrial process wastewaters. Such wastewaters frequently contain chelants and other complexing agents that surround the metal ions and prevent the chemical reaction that converts the ions into insoluble particles. Our precipitants chemically “break” such chelating/complexing rings allowing metals to be precipitated out of solution.

Metal Precipitating Chemicals and Blends

WMT has a wide-ranging offering of heavy metal precipitants for a variety of wastewater treatment applications. Some wastewaters contain chelants and other complexing agents that prevent standard wastewater treatment chemistry from successfully precipitating heavy metals. Aries’ PrecipMet and Chembreak product lines are formulated to successfully precipitate heavy metals from difficult to treat wastewater.

CARBAMATE BASED PRECIPITANTS
Organic liquid precipitants (sodium dimethyldithio carbamate) formulated for precipitating heavy metals, particularly chelated and complexed ions, in process and other wastewater. The precipitating reaction forms insoluble organometallic compounds with minimal sludge generation.

THIOCARBONATE BASED PRECIPITANTS
Less-toxic heavy metal precipitants used to replace traditional DTC chemistry with lower total aquatic toxicity than alternatives.

SULFIDE BASED PRECIPITANTS
Liquid products designed for the reduction of hexavalent chromium and the removal of heavy metals from wastewater in one step as a key component of an overall heavy metal removal program. Replaces sodium metabisulfite, hydrosulfite and bisulfite. Produces significantly less sludge, in some cases, these products require little or no supplemental coagulation.
