Reverse osmosis (RO) membrane technology is one of the most important technologies for water treatment, and membrane fouling is an inevitable issue. Membrane fouling leads to higher operating pressure, frequent chemical cleaning and shorter membrane life. Similar to other water systems, prevention of scale, corrosion and biological fouling are essential to proper treatment.

Reverse Osmosis antiscalant chemical programs are designed to be used upstream of a reverse osmosis membrane system. These antiscalant chemicals for RO products are designed to prevent or slow-down mineral scale formation on the membrane surface, reduce operating costs, prevent fouling and extend equipment life.

WMT’s full line of reverse osmosis suitable biocides include non-oxidizing, non-ionic biocides that can be used either on-line or as part of a cleaning program to control biofouling.

For optimal performance, specific chemicals are required depending on the cause of the fouling. There are advantages in cleaning membranes at an early stage of fouling, as irreversible damage can occur when cleaning excessively fouled membranes.
